LTC (R) Gerald T. Wellman is the Senior Army Instructor (SAI) of the Army Junior Reserved Officers Training (JROTC) program at East Boston High School. A graduate of Providence College, he holds a Masters in Education, Guidance and Counseling, from Boston University and a Masters in Construction Management from Polytechnic Institute of New York. LTC (R) Wellman completed a 21 year career as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Corps of Engineers and retired from active duty on 30 June 1993. The following day he reported into East Boston high School where he will be starting his nineteenth year. As with the mission of the JROTC program LTC (R) Wellman's priority is to motivate young persons to become better citizens. As such, the highest priority is to get students into school, on time and prepared and most importantly anxious to learn. For the past eighteen years, due to the pride class and tradition of the Corps of Cadets, the EBHS JROTC program has been recognized as an Honor Unit with Distinction, ranked as one of the very best programs on the east coast.
